Tabula Rasa

Tabula Rasa Jerusalem Tabula Rasa Jerusalem

Tabula Rasa was first commissioned for Enchanted Parks and subsequently recommissioned for the Light In Jerusalem festival 2012, Israel, in the ruins of St Mary’s, a twelfth century Teutonic Hospitaller’s Church on the path from the Jewish Quarter of the Old City to the Western Wall.  The installation comprised a circular table covered with a tablecloth on which was projected video of a dinner party, filmed from overhead.  Almost all we see of the diners are their hands and arms as they eat and drink.

The installation recalls every dinner party the audience has ever attended or hosted and inevitably recalls the Last Supper, the historical site of which is only a stone’s throw away. Light in Jerusalem achieved an audience of over 300,000 over the ten days of the installation.
